Regarding the R1 mixture prob.
Without a gas analyser, or a dyno, (I have both!) you can easily tell if =
something is going massively rich or weak.
Rich will give at the time of the obvious problem:
1.black exhaust smoke
2.cool engine
3.loss of 1 or 2 cylinders (you can feel the regular misfire)
4.If you pull the clutch and snap the gas shut the engine will stop or =
struggle to run as its loaded with fuel for a sec or two.
5.sooty exhaust
6.black or sooty looking plugs
7.smell of fuel (bystander)
8.worse when bigger main jets or choke on or hand over intake or =
whatever
Lean at time of problem:
1.pops bangs and crackles
2.hot motor
3.burned or whiteish plugs, with yellowish bottom electrode - plug chop =
immediately after problem!
4.pistons look white
6.clean exhaust gasses - visibly
7.bigger jets (lots bigger) a rag or hand over the intake allows it to =
pull through the problem (like a conventional choke)
8.burned valves pistons or plugs are also a slight giveaway..
A quick check of the above will get you going in the right direction, a =
the clues kind of add up.
Changing to a slightly bigger or smaller may not show much difference if =
its miles out though.
Once you get close then you need a dyno.
